A Rankine cycle is a closed-cycle system where a working fluid circulates through a minimum of an evaporator, turbine, condenser and a pump to convert heat into work. It is a generator set designed and produced for the utilization of low-temperature waste heat between 85-300 ℃.The conventional working fluid for Rankine cycle plants is water.
ORC generator set working principle
- The medium used by the ORC generator set is organic matter. Utilize the low boiling point characteristics of organic medium (evaporate at 35-65°C).
- The selection of the organic medium is determined by the temperature level of the waste heat. Commonly used mediums include R134, R245fa, etc. It is an internationally accepted organic medium, safe, reliable, non-toxic, non-flammable, and stable in physical and chemical properties.
- When the waste heat temperature is greater than the evaporation temperature of the medium, the organic medium vaporizes in the evaporator and transforms into a gas with a certain pressure, pushing the screw (or turbine) expander to do work, and the screw (or turbine) machine drives the generator to generate electricity.
- After the work is done, the gas is a gas-liquid two-phase, which is condensed into a full liquid phase by the condenser and enters the liquid storage tank. The working fluid pump pumps the liquid working fluid into the evaporator to complete a work cycle.
ORC generator set efficiency
- The efficiency of ORC generator sets is generally around 3-18%.
- The efficiency depends on the difference between the evaporation temperature and the condensation temperature of the working fluid.
- The temperature of the heat source directly determines the evaporation temperature.
- The ambient temperature determines the condensation temperature.
- Different heat sources have different efficiencies, and different ambient temperatures have different power generation efficiencies.
