An air-cooled heat exchanger, or called air cooler, the advantages of air cooled heat exchanger are as following:
- High Heat Transfer Coefficient: The air-cooled heat exchanger has a high heat transfer coefficient, which is generally considered to be three to five times that of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Under same heat exchange task, the heat exchange area of the air-cooled heat exchanger is less than half of the shell-and-tube heat exchange area;
- Large Temperature Difference Correction Coefficient: In a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, the two fluids flow in the shell and tube sections, respectively, and are generally a cross-flow flow pattern. If further analysis, the shell side is a mixed flow, and the tube length is a multi-strand flow, so the logarithmic mean temperature difference should be corrected. The correction factor is usually small. The flow of fluid within the air-cooled heat exchanger is generally a concurrent or countercurrent flow pattern;
- The Small Footprint: The air-cooled heat exchanger is compact in structure, and the heat exchange area per unit volume is several times that of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger. the air-cooled heat exchanger covers an area of about one-fifth to one-tenth of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger when the same heat transfer task is achieved.
